Shooter season 3 renewal odds: Will Ryan Phillippe show return to USA?

Shooter season 3 renewal

Going into tonight’s finale, are the Shooter season 3 renewal odds high over at USA? We want to say that they are. If there’s any resistance at all, it’s mostly that this is a show with its fair share of bad luck.

Now with that being said, there is a decent amount to be happy about in terms of the show’s season 2 ratings. To date, Shooter is averaging a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and there is some good news when you compare this to some other shows airing on the network. It’s right around the level of Queen of the South and Suits, and not too far off from one of the biggest shows of the summer in The Sinner.

If there is some bad news, however, it comes when comparing these ratings to the show’s season 1 averages. The first season pulled in a 0.5 rating, and that was with it airing in the fall when there was technically a lot more competition on the air. We do think going from fall to summer probably hurt season 2 slightly, just because viewers got used to this show coming on at a certain time of the year and found it hard to adjust. The first season actually was intended to air in the summer as well, but was delayed following a series of gun-related tragedies.

Ultimately, we do still remain hopeful that a Shooter season 3 renewal is coming just because the ratings are pretty solid, and there is a lot of story left to tell for Bob Lee Swagger — especially when you stop and think for a moment about how the second season could be wrapping up. Given Ryan Phillippe’s leg injury, production had to halt before the story of Solotov really came to the originally-intended end. While we cannot project the ending of this season without seeing the finale first (we’re writing this in the hours leading up to that episode airing), we have a feeling that the show is going to end on a fairly substantial cliffhanger. Even a Shooter season 3 of just 8-10 episodes would be enough to give this story a little more juice and potentially end in a way that could satisfy viewers.

Odds are, USA will make their decision, (one way or another) by the time we get around to the fall. There’s only so much time that they can take in making this decision before cast and creators start to move on. Fingers crossed that everyone involved wants Bob Lee to keep his swagger for a while longer. There aren’t many other shows out there on TV quite like this one.
