Game of Thrones season 7 finale: Hound v. Mountain, Bran Stark, other theories
1. Cleganebowl – This is clearly one of the most-anticipated moments on the show: A battle between Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane and his brother Sandor a.k.a. The Hound. Their story has been largely under the radar for years, but there’s a history of violence and abuse there that could make a showdown between the two at King’s Landing electric. We know that The Mountain is hardly even The Mountain anymore, and this could make any showdown all the more interesting given that he is now the Game of Thrones version of Frankenstein’s Monster.
2. Bran Stark’s purpose – Could he be the one to turn the tide against the White Walkers? He is equipped of all this knowledge, but when you think about it, so far he actually has not done all that much in order to turn the tide in Westeros. This is someone whose role is still yet to play out in full, but the photo above proves that he has an important role to play in this final episode of the year.
3. Sansa vs. Arya – Could one of them actually do away with the other? This is in part something that Littlefinger has worked hard to piece together this season. He wants there to be an opportunity for him to gain more power as Sansa’s key adviser, and knows that there is less of a way to do that with Arya around. One way or another, things have to change with this relationship in the finale.
4. Ice Dragon – Is the power here what we think it will be? While we know that Daenerys is now short a dragon, we’ve yet to actually see the new Zombie Dragon in action spewing ice.
5. Finally, “The Dragon and the Wolf” – This is the title of the finale, and most signs point towards this being a great opportunity to either pair Daenerys and Jon romantically, or for the latter to realize more of his true destiny. After all, he is both a Targeryan and a Stark, one part dragon and one part wolf. He could be the person to turn the tide in Westeros more so than anyone, and be the real heir to the Iron Throne more so than anyone.
Given that this finale tonight runs for almost 80 minutes, there will certainly be opportunities for all of these key questions to be answered in some shape or form. We’re just going to have to see how this story ends up developing, and how season 8 will pick up the pieces.
