The first Absentia premiere date surfaces overseas; still waiting for US home announcement
If you head over to the Sony-owned AXN Romania’s website, you will see that the show starring Stana Katic and Patrick Heusinger is set to premiere on Monday, September 25. There’s also a promo below from a Spanish-language AXN station teasing the same premiere date. Depending on where you live in the world, you’re not going to have to wait too much longer to check the series out.
Unfortunately, there is no premiere date for Absentia in Canada (where it is airing on Showcase); meanwhile, there is still no announced network home at all for the show yet in America. An agreement has been reached for someone to broadcast the show, but that’s all we know. Once that home is announced, we may get more of a sense as to when the show is actually going to come on stateside.
One thing that is interesting from a timing point of view here in America is that September 25 is more or less the official start of the fall TV season — in other words, it’s one of the busiest nights of the year in terms of new programming. Not only will there be the return of The Voice and The Big Bang Theory, but you’ve also got Scorpion, new drama The Good Doctor, the second week of Dancing with the Stars, and Monday Night Football airing over on ESPN. It wouldn’t come as a shock if Absentia premieres either later or on a different night here in America to avoid some of the crossfire that is going to come from all of that competition. You also want there to be a lot of time to promote the show, and we’re really not that far away from September 25 yet in TV terms. Our primary hope still is that the show finds the most supportive home possible.
No matter when the show does premiere, we do think it’s going to be worth it. You’re getting a smart, captivating mystery featuring Katic as Emily Byrne, an FBI agent who finds herself free from six years of capture; however, she holds no memory of what happened to her during most of that time. She also finds the life that she had outside of work in tatters; her former husband Nick (Heusinger) has re-married and another woman (Cara Theobold) is helping to raise her child. As the show progresses, you should very much expect the mystery to become all the more complex and intricate. We’ve seen the first episode, and without spoiling anything we feel confident that it will be very much worth the wait.
Unfortunately, good things do come to those who wait — that’s how the expression goes. Once we have more news on a US home and a stateside premiere date, we’ll have it for you here.
For now, be sure to let us know how you feel about the Absentia overseas premiere date in the attached comments! You can also head over here to visit our archive and see some other features. (Photo: Sony.)

As mid-September nears I’m fearful that I won’t enjoy seeing my favorite actress on the big screen. It takes a while to promote a new show even if it won’t appear until mid/late September. I just spent over an hour reading teases about current shows returning. Sigh…this whole thing is making me Sad. But, I can only hope….

First, I have to admit that I very little patience. Still, if the Twitter page is correct, from I guess a month ago that the show has gotten a network or whichever that will air Absentia in the U.S. Why haven’t they announced already? I’m sure it’s to build anticipation for the show’s release however, I myself feel my anticipation beginning to wane slightly as the days go on. True they shouldn’t have announced it back in June or July but I should hope that they would want to say when and more likely if it will air. I am not really aware of the marketing strategy the show is going for but I should hope that if Absentia has any chase of keeping people from the U.S. at least invested then they should announce it next week or shortly next month, there’s building up anticipation, and then there’s just dragging it out annoyingly long, but that’s just me.

It does have a network in the US, and I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t been announced yet. I’m just hoping it’s being held for the sake of maximum exposure whenever the news comes out.

Il sera diffusé US (ça était annoncé) mais quand ? Le mieux serait une sortie mondiale fin Sept. (25-26 ou 27)

You’re right that they say it will…but no network has said they’ll take it. And for it to air between September 25 and 27th it needs to be signed now so it can be promoted. Like I said I got a bad feeling about this.

I have a sinking feeling it won’t air in the US. As popular as Stana Katic has been in the United States after Castle, it makes no sense to me that five or six networks wouldn’t be competing like crazy to grab that show, however not a word. Something just doesn’t feel right.
