Ratings: Power season 4, Ray Donovan season 5, Shadowhunters finale
Sunday’s new episode, which certainly helped to pave the way for the final two installments of the season, ended up generating overall a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just over 1.8 million viewers. (We do know that the demo rating doesn’t matter for a network without advertisements, but it’s useful for comparison.) In terms of viewers this is the show’s second-best performance of the season following only the July 30 episode that drew around 1.83. This is still another reminder about how, in the world of television, consistency is king. If you can get people to develop a routine of watching you on the basis of quality, there’s a very good chance that these people will stick around for the long haul. Power, luckily, is very much a quality show.
Just in case you’re interested in some more ratings coverage…
Ray Donovan falls slightly – The expectation is that you’re going to see a decline in viewership for the second episode of the season. With that, the folks over at the Showtime drama can’t be too upset to go from 1.12 million to 1.11 million for the second episode. Personally, we feel like these are the sort of numbers that other programmers can only dream of getting week-to-week.
Like we said, the demo ratings for premium cable are pretty meaningless, but it’s still rather-nice to see that Ray Donovan actually improved in viewers 18-49, posting in total a 0.3 there. All of this sets a great precedent for in a few weeks when the show actually doesn’t have to air up against Game of Thrones.
How about the Shadowhunters finale? – The demo ratings do matter here, and it’s actually surprising to see that the show lost a little bit of steam in its last installment of the season. Overall, the episode generated a 0.2 rating and around 587,000 viewers. In that latter measure, what we’re seeing are the lowest overall numbers for the show in total viewers since early July. Given that the show was already renewed for a third season, though, there really isn’t all that much to worry about.
Bachelor in Paradise tumbles – For those wondering, the second episode of the ABC reality series, otherwise known as the one that didn’t have the same sort of massive scandal around it, posted only a 1.1 rating in the demo. That’s still good enough to keep this series on the air, but it’s clearly not going to draw huge headlines saying that this is the biggest edition of the show to date.
