Ratings: Game of Thrones sets another record; Bachelor in Paradise strong
This time around, the series posted 10.7 million viewers for its episode “Eastwatch,” one that sets the stage for a huge battle on Sunday that could once more be the highest-rated episode of the season. Not only did this shatter the record set by “Spoils of War” the week before, but it did so by more than 5%. This is a show that we figure will, at the very least, break another record by the time the show ends this season, and then another by the time that season 8 premieres.
What we’re trying to say here is this: HBO is going to be really sad when the show wraps. Also, they’re going to be greenlighting a spin-off as soon as they find one that’s worthy. This is a gravy train that they don’t want to see stop at any point in the near future.
For the record, we’re super-curious to see whether or not these ratings end up surpassing the viewing figures for The Walking Dead when that show premieres later this fall. We’ve definitely seen a closing of the gap as of late.
As for some other notable ratings news…
Bachelor in Paradise starts off solid
For everyone out there who is wondering, the series on ABC is doing very well in its fourth go-around on the air, and seems to be especially unfazed by all of the DeMario Jackson – Corinne Olympios controversy. As a matter of fact, the show premiered on Monday with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is the best number that we’ve seen for the show ever for a premiere, and that bodes really well for the remainder of the season.
What’s even more interesting to us is that this rating isn’t really all that far off from the numbers for The Bachelorette, meaning basically that if you’re watching that edition of the show, you’re obviously watching this one, as well. It’s easy to judge the show if you want to do that, but no doubt ABC is happy with it. This is summer programming, but it’s generating ratings that are better than many shows during the regular season and it was trending #1 worldwide last night. There’s a reason why the network was so eager to air it provided that the investigation into the incident didn’t show any wrongdoing on the part of DeMario, Corinne, or production.
