Crime Dynamic Duos: The Blacklist (Reddington / Liz) vs. Lethal Weapon (Riggs / Murtaugh)

We’re now thick into round 2 of our Crime Dynamic Duos series, and today we’ve got a showdown featuring two different shows that are very popular in their own ways. They’re a part of two of the more prominent crime series on TV, and without either one of them, we have a feeling that the shows would fall apart.

Below, you can read our take on what got Reddington / Liz and Riggs / Murtaugh to this point in the series, and also what makes them both such great dynamic duos. They exemplify some of the best of what great crime-related programming is all about!

Who moves on to the next round? That’s totally up to you! Check out the poll at the bottom of the article.

Voting Rules – You may vote however much you want within the specified voting window. (The image above explains everything in terms of start and stop dates.) Note that if you are struggling to cast repeat votes, you may need to clear your cache or use a different browser or device. Still with us? Let’s dive into this battle…

Reddington and Liz, The Blacklist (#1 seed) – They are an extremely popular pair among fans of the show, and beyond that, they’re essential for continuing the show’s mythology. Without them there is no real mystery, given that Liz Keen wouldn’t be aware of many of the quirky evil-doers that she and the FBI Task Force have to take on. Their relationship is complicated and there are certainly some times in which they’ve been at odds, but there’s no question that when together, they are one of the biggest forces to be reckoned with out there.

Reddington and Liz had a fairly commanding victory in the first round, netting more than two-thirds of the vote against Sherlock and Joan from Elementary. To their credit, they did perform better, as well, than some of the other lower seeds this year.

Riggs and Murtaugh, Lethal Weapon (#3 seed) – This, meanwhile, was the closest battle of the entire Dynamic Duos series! There was literally only one vote that gave them the victory over Bishop / McGee from NCIS at the end of the voting window, but that was enough to allow them an opportunity to move on.

As for what got them here, a good bit of it has to do with the wide variety of good stuff that Damon Wayans Jr. and Clayne Crawford brought to these roles during the first season. They excel in action sequences, but also can play the emotional scenes and more comedic moments equally well. Let’s hope for more great stuff moving into season 2.
