Supernatural season 13 episode 10 will be Wayward Sisters backdoor pilot
What we are glad to know today is that unlike most backdoor pilots, The CW is actually going to be launching this one fairly early in the season. You will see Wayward Sisters in episode 10 of the season, and the first part of the season will build up organically to it happening.
In speaking about it further to TVLine, co-showrunner Andrew Dabb discussed some of the major events, including Claire Novak’s arrival and Alex living with Jody Mills, that led to the show officially getting to the place where it could launch:
“That was something that simmered for us, and fans really latched onto it in a way we could have never expected, in a really awesome way … Last season, because of the British Men of Letters and Mom, it didn’t feel right [to launch it in there]. This season, it feels right. And the way it’s going, as you’ll see as you watch the show, it evolves very organically out of the first half of the season… because we have such a high amount of lead time.”
One of the great things about the preparation for Wayward Sisters is that the producers knew they were doing it before the season and could plan for it. Sometimes, backdoor pilots come out of nowhere, and this is what Supernatural: Bloodlines felt when it was first announced. That show felt too different from the flagship show, and when you think about it really was more of The Originals than it was anything else. This show seems like a more natural fit because it features familiar faces and there is more crossover potential in theory … not that we’re sure how much there will be when you think about how busy Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are already. What we do know is that in the event the boys ever do decide to leave the show, there’s more of a legacy that could be left behind.
In the end, though, the biggest thing that you do have to remember is that Wayward Sisters, even though it has a pilot, is not actually a full-fledged series just yet and there are some further hoops that will need to be jumped through in order for it to become a reality. We need to see what the ratings are for the pilot and gauge critical reception before a final verdict can be waged.
