Game of Thrones season 7 episode 3: Bosses on Olenna – Jaime scene

Game of Thrones season 7 episode 3 was a story of many different important moments, captures, deaths, and surprises. There was a great deal crammed into a short period of time, and with so many characters dropping like flies, it’s starting to become clear that for the final episodes, we’re going to see a show that is far more concentrated than ever before.

Following this episode, show bosses David Benioff and D.B. Weiss did their part in a behind-the-scenes “Inside the Episode” clip to explain some of what transpired. Take a look at some of their quotes below.

On the Jon – Daenerys reunion – “It was an exciting thing to watch, even as we were shooting it. We realized that we were getting a charge out of seeing this happen on set, which is a notoriously boring place. We had a sense that it would carry over to the scene.”

On Jon’s perspective towards the Mother of Dragons – “He doesn’t have much insight into what she’s gone through, so I think he sees a rich girl with a fancy name sitting in a big chair with a fancy dress on, proclaiming herself to be the queen of the world … He didn’t come down there to bend the knee or to join her in a fight against Cersei. All that matters is fighting the dead.

On Daenerys’ perspective towards the King of the North – “This is some unwashed barbarian from the North, and a bastard … and yet he’s calling himself King. If she knew what he’s seen, she’d be looking at him very differently.”

On Cersei’s psyche – “This is a murderous, vicious woman. She is capable of insane amounts of brutality without a second thought, if she feels is that this is what needs to be done.”

On the surprisingly-easy victory at Casterly Rock – “The siege of Casterly Rock is so much about what doesn’t happen, how it goes contrary to expectations. In order for us to understand as to how [it goes], you need to hear Tyrion’s expectations. What he thinks the Unsullied are going to find are true until the very end.

On Jaime Lannister taking Highgarden and killing Olenna – “We decided to cut to the chase and cut right to Jaime, single-handedly going to the person who he is there to see, and that is Olenna Tyrell. Jaime finally gets to turn the table and kill one of his enemies, and she still owns the scene [by admitting to killing Joffrey].”

What’s so crazy about this video is that so much happens that what happened with Ellaria Sand almost gets completely overlooked here. This was an essential episode for reminding you that the good guys don’t always win, and that does help to raise the stakes.
