Poldark season 3 episode 8 spoilers: The Ross, Demelza, and Hugh triangle
As we move into next week’s episode, one other thing that may be hurting Ross romantically is merely his own history. Hugh Armitage is now in Cornwall, and as we’ve stated in the past, he is going to be a romantic rival for Aidan Turner’s character. He takes an interest in Demelza, and Ross is going to experience some of the longing and heartache that comes with wondering if he’s not going to have a partner anymore. It’s some of the fear that Demelza also likely felt back near the end of last season when Ross was unfaithful and slept with Elizabeth. That, as you know, has spiraled out of control in ALL sorts of ways.
The synopsis below gives you the smallest sense as to what’s coming.
Poldark season 3 episode 8 synopsis – “An election threatens Truro’s status quo. As his past actions confront him, Ross senses a rival for Demelza’s affection.”
What may be remarkable about this episode is that Poldark writer Debbie Horsfield may have found a way to deliver a story that is equally as epic to what Ross is going through with Demelza in the form of the Truro election. We’ve seen what the people of the region have been going through for quite some time, and they need someone who will adequately represent them, their values, and their message. Cornwall is threatened by a caste-like society where the poor rarely seem to get ahead, and the rich take advantage of their social standing and try to build themselves more power and permanence on their backs. It’s heartbreaking in its own right, and we’ll see if there is some sort of conclusion reached in this regard.
Warning: Spoilers from tonight’s episode ahead…
You now know further the stakes for Ross and Demelza. In the aftermath of Agatha’s terrible death, he is emotionally over the edge, and the lack of attention he is giving his wife — or consideration for her feelings — may be causing her to move further towards Hugh. He had the power to turn the tide in Truro, but it may be too late for him to turn things around. He may not even have the capacity to do so with so much gone from his metaphorical tank.
