Arrow season 6 spoilers: Person of Interest alum Michael Emerson in
Well, today at San Diego Comic-Con it was confirmed that Emerson is joining the series in a major recurring role — but also one that is locked up in mystery for the time being. Our guess would be that Emerson is going to play the Big Bad for the season, given that he’s set for multiple episodes and with an actor of this caliber, you don’t give him a role that is unimportant. The thing that we’re probably the most impressed and surprised by is just that the series was able to get him in the first place. Think about Lost and then Person of Interest — Emerson may have one of the best TV resumes out of anyone who has appeared on the show.
What’s great about the idea of having Emerson as a big-time villain here is that it would gear the show more towards a cerebral opponent to Oliver Queen, which would draw a very interesting parallel between this show and The Flash, who is bringing on board The Thinker a.k.a. Clifford DeVoe (you can read more about that casting over at the link here). As these superhero shows start to get later in their run, you have to take advantage of what their biggest strengths are. For Arrow, one of the big selling points that it has is simply that it’s been around for so long now. You know these characters, and there is value in continuing to get opportunities to see some of them challenged and doing different things. Seeing Oliver kick butt against other strong guys is great, but it’s nice to see him tormented in some other ways.
Beyond of course Emerson’s casting, though, there isn’t a whole lot else to reveal from the casting standpoint. Given the nature of the season 5 cliffhanger — which left almost everyone presumed dead on Liam Yu, the producers are taking a hush-hush approach to things. We know that Anatoly will be back based on what was said today, and star Stephen Amell previously confirmed that there are going to be more appearances from Manu Bennett in the works. If you love Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, there’s a substantial reason to stand up and cheer there.
Want some more DC series scoop?
Well, one thing that you’re going to want to know about here is that Supergirl has a new trailer! Also, Wentworth Miller will be returning to Legends of Tomorrow, and former Arrow Big Bad Neal McDonough is going to be sticking around Legends of Tomorrow as a regular, as well. (Photo: The CW.)
