MTV’s Scream season 3: Tyga, C.J. Wallace join cast

Tyga

Just in case you wanted further evidence that Scream season 3 is going in a new direction, here it is: Tyga and C.J. Wallace are in the cast.

As first told by The Hollywood Reporter, these two performers (also known for music) are going to find some rather big ways to make their presence known on the upcoming batch of episodes. Tyga is going to play the part of Jamal, the stepbrother of another new character named Deion. Deion is a football player who is looking to head to college and secure his future; unfortunately, everything starts to unravel when a masked killer starts trying to ruin his life.

Jamal is apparently a tough guy with some difficulties in his past, but he has a loyal streak and does care for those close to him. This is a very different sort of role for Tyga, so we’re curious to see how he takes it on.

Meanwhile, Wallace, who is the son of Faith Evan and the late The Notorious B.I.G, is going to play a “socially awkward savant” by the name of Amir. He’s someone who does want to have a career in music, but for whatever reason shies away from telling anyone that. Given that this is Scream and everyone’s going to be the target of a killer in one way or another, he’ll also have his own history and series of run-ins that we need to watch out for over the course of the batch of episodes.

Scream season 3 is going to be run by The Vampire Diaries alum Brett Matthews, but there are many more different producers behind the scenes including the legendary Queen Latifah. This new season is a shot for MTV to reboot the horror franchise, which ran for two seasons featuring the same cast before undergoing this new creative shift. While we’re going to miss having some of the old familiar faces around, we’ll also be the first to admit that we’re just thrilled in the end that we’re still getting some scripted content on MTV at all. When you look across the board, it’s pretty plain to see that the network’s roster is starting to wane significantly.

When will Scream season 3 premiere?

As of right now, the plan is to air this six-episode season almost as a miniseries event. There will be three nights in which the show airs, with there being two hours per night. This is an interesting format for the show to take, and maybe it’ll end up working since it replicates almost the modern-day binge-watching model.
