Game of Thrones season 7: The path to a Ser Jorah endgame
At present, there are few characters within the HBO series that have anywhere near the sort of mystery around them that Jorah does. He hasn’t been highlighted in many promotional photos, and Iain Glen hasn’t been featured so much on the interview circuit. He is your resident mystery wrapped within an enigma, and if and when Jorah shows up, it should prove dramatic.
Where we left off – It’s simple: He has grayscale, and he is off seeing if there is a way for him to cure it. Given Jorah’s devotion / mad crazy love for Daenerys, he’s going to do everything that he can to find a way to get better and return to her. How far will he go? Well, we know that Jorah is absolutely capable of killing, so we wouldn’t be all that shocked if he goes so far as to move in that direction to achieve what he wants, provided that it helps him. We also wouldn’t put it past him working out some sort of a deal with a priestess where there is a consequence somewhere else.
What’s his role beyond that? – Let’s first of all write out the possibility that Jorah doesn’t find anyone to help him and just dies — there is something appropriate to that given that not all stories have to come full-circle. His tale could just be a sad victim to an incurable ailment, and someone useful getting his Khaleesi to this point.
Or, if he is healed, we do still see him having a key role as a general / key adviser to her in Westeros. He has connections there, he’s still well-versed in combat, and we could see him being a key cog who could attract people Tyrion could not. We don’t think he’s ever going to be anything more to Daenerys than what he is (he can go ahead and write that off now), but he could still be someone who fights for her or even makes a key sacrifice for her. All things point towards him still playing a role in her story, given that Game of Thrones isn’t the sort of show that would waste a lot of time on a character that ended up being killed off because of grayscale right when things are starting to get good.
Will he survive the series? – It’d be ironic if the guy who’s spent the past season close to death were to make it out alive, but we don’t see it. He feels more like a guy who goes out in a last hurrah, sensing that his time is nigh and wanting to serve a grander purpose.
For the time being, we’ll just settle for getting to see more of Jorah on the series as a whole.
