Call the Midwife season 7: A look inside one medical crisis (photo)

Call the Midwife season 7

If you do watch Call the Midwife season 7 with any degree of regularity, one thing you may be acutely aware of is the regularity of medical crises. It’s assumed that there would be many on a show with nurses and midwives at the center of it, but not all of these crises have to do with birth!

For a prime example of that, take a look behind the scenes with one of the newest posts as presented by the series’ official Facebook page. One of the primary reasons that we highlight this now is because of what the post describes and emphasizes — that this injury, which seems to be to a patient’s knee, is the starting-off point for the story. It’s not so much about the fact that a person was injured; it’s more about how and why it happened, and if there is any larger issue that needs to be addressed in order to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. While these midwives are not police officers, they can be the fundamental instigators for social change. They can get the metaphorical ball rolling, and from there it’s possible that important parties truly bring the issue to light. We’ve seen that in the past with Shelagh and other characters, and we like to imagine that this is something that is going to surface down the road with some of the other main characters, as well.

The more that we see the midwives and nurses involved around Poplar, the stronger the overall series will be. Also, cultivating these stories helps to make episodes far more memorable than they would be otherwise. The last thing that you want is for there to be a case that completely is glossed over a week or two after the show comes on the air.

Effectively, this post best serves as an example of how much writer Heidi Thomas tends to think ahead in terms of some of the stories that you are going to see on the show. She plans out injuries, but then the aftereffects and emotional consequences of them.

When is Call the Midwife back?

Think Christmas with a brand-new special that presumably won’t be venturing anywhere near as far from Poplar. The jaunt to South Africa appears at present to be a one-time occasion. Beyond that, new episodes of the series will start airing most likely in January in the United Kingdom, and a little later in the spring in America. Emerald Fennell won’t be returning as Patsy, and the characters of Sister Monica Joan and Delia also are wrapped up. There are some new faces that will turn up, and you will learn more about them in due time.
