Criminal Minds alum Shemar Moore, Veep’s Anna Chlumsky to announce Emmy nominations

When the 2017 Emmy nominations are officially announced a little bit later this month, they will have familiar faces in Shemar Moore and Anna Chlumsky present.

This news was confirmed earlier this week be the Television Academy, and for both the Criminal Minds alum / SWAT star and Veep actress this is a great honor. It also continues the pattern of there being a possible Emmy nominee (Chlumsky has been nominated before for playing Amy) alongside a network star. (The Emmys are on CBS this year, and Moore is the lead on SWAT when it premieres later this fall.) They’ll be there to provide a little bit of fun and levity, or however much that there can be this early in the morning. The nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 13 at 8:30 a.m. Pacific time — a rather nice time in comparison to when they used to be announced in the wee hours of the morning.

In a statement, Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington said the following about the announcement:

“It has been an extraordinary year for television. The industry has never been more dynamic or inventive, and storytellers and content creators have never been more prolific … We are thrilled to have these two talented and respected performers join us in launching another exciting Emmy season.”

As of right now, we consider The Crown to be the favorite to win many of the drama awards, while for the first time in a while Veep could have some substantial competition in the form of Atlanta, the series from Donald Glover that has consistently shown an ability to take home many a trophy. It’s well-acted, well-performed, and has a very strong social message. There aren’t many other comedies out there that are such a triple threat.

Also, for Moore fans this should be fun since he was fairly under-the-radar for most of the past year prior to his SWAT hiring; he did make an appearance on the Criminal Minds finale, but that was it in terms of major TV appearances.
