Quick Hits: World of Dance renewed; Greta Van Susteren exiting MSNBC; Jetsons series
The show has been the biggest surprise of the summer, consistently drawing great ratings following America’s Got Talent. While there aren’t all that many fresh faces (many of the dancers we’ve seen before on other shows), there is some fun that comes out of seeing so many of them thrown into a single show and seeing what comes as a result of that.
In a statement, Jennifer Lopez (who is a judge alongside Ne-Yo and Derek Hough) had the following to say about World of Dance returning:
“I am so proud to not only star, but produce a show that is so close to my heart … I am so happy that World of Dance has resonated with audiences and we are able to put dancers on the pedestal they deserve. I cannot wait to continue this journey and my partnership with NBC.”
There are still several weeks to go of the show this summer, so that’s something to be on the lookout for.
As for some other news from the day…
Greta Van Susteren out at MSNBC – In a post on Twitter, the former Fox News host confirmed that she is departing the network after briefly hosting a series there. This seemed to be a part of NBCUniversal’s strategy to bring over reporters who were a part of the network, but to date, it has not worked out in terms of vast commercial success. While another for Fox anchor in Megyn Kelly currently has her own primetime news show over on NBC, to date it’s struggling in the ratings and is known more for causing controversy than delivering anything of enormous substance.
Is there a new Jetsons on the way? – It may be crazy, but it’s happening! According to TVLine, Warner Bros. is developing a live-action version of the classic cartoon, which will be executive-produced by Robert Zemeckis. Gary Janetti of Family Guy is going to serve as a potential writer-producer on the project. This one would be set all the way in 2118 in the event that it actually gets picked up to series — for now, the project is being shopped to potential buyers.
