MasterChef season 8 episode 5 exclusive: Is this Mystery Box alive?
The remaining home cooks are going to have the challenge of trying to cook something delicious using these ingredients, and cooking here is only a part of the challenge. If there is one challenge that we’d flunk at every season, it’s this one just because we don’t have the heart to kill something that’s live before using it in our food. As we say every time, we know that’s hypocritical given that we’d gladly eat it, but there’s just something difficult about being both the cook and the executioner.
Out of everyone on the cast this season, clearly Jason is the one who’s having the most fun with this. After all, the dude is having himself a little bit of a dance after it’s revealed what he’s cooking with. It makes for good television, no? The problem here is going to be whether or not he’s luring himself into some false sense of security; if you remember, last week Paige found herself feeling extremely confident because she ate a lot of Mexican food growing up, and that challenge ended up sending her home. (Here’s the good news — Jason probably doesn’t have to be worried about elimination here, since most Mystery Box Challenges don’t exist for that purpose.)
All in all, this should make for a pretty intense way to start the episode, and more than likely whoever wins this is either going to have immunity, a big advantage in the Elimination Challenge coming after the fact, or a combination of the two.
One way or another, you’re going to find out what lies ahead when MasterChef airs on Fox tomorrow night.
