Big Brother 19: Why Ika Wong – ET Canada gig is more important than you’d think
Here’s what makes a part of this season’s cast release so special: Ika Wong is interviewing all of the new houseguests! ET Canada is bringing her on board to go down and speak to some of the new peasants entering the U.S. house, which should make for pretty entertaining pre-game chats (with “pretty entertaining” being an understatement.)
With that said, we actually think that there is a little bit more significance to this gig than you would think as first glance. As many people out there know, Big Brother Canada is regrettably on hiatus, and despite it trending recently, there hasn’t been any official movement. In hiring Ika for ET Canada, Corus (who is the parent company for this show, Global, and many other Canadian networks) is signaling that they still want their own franchise to be front of mind for many fans of the show. If they didn’t want people to be thinking about Big Brother Canada at all, they could’ve hired a standard reporter and not referenced the Canadian show at all. Having Ika there is a signal that, at the very least, they’re still thinking about the franchise and they want their viewers to be aware of it.
Maybe it doesn’t happen in 2018, but we do remain confident that Big Brother Canada will return down the road. Sometimes distance makes the heart grow fonder, and there may have just been people suffering from some BB Burnout in the spring of this year who would be ready and engaged to take on another season again in Canada in 2019. The diehard fans are of course going to watch; what this show needs is continued outreach from the casual crowd, who are the folks you don’t often hear about on social media.
