Famous in Love season 2: Did finale ratings help Bella Thorne series?
Overall, the final two episodes of the Bella Thorne series, from Pretty Little Liars creator Marlene King, produced results much in line with the remainder of the season. The first of the two episodes on Tuesday night ended up generating in total a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 360,000 total viewers. The latter is the show’s best total since the second episode in April.
However, this slowed down dramatically for the finale that aired right afterward; while the demo rating rounds out to be about the same, it did drop when you look past the tenth of a decimal point. Meanwhile, it also posted only 230,000 viewers, which is the second-worst outing for the show to date. It’s possible that this was too late for the average Freeform viewer (the network does skew young), or that some viewers simply were not aware that there were two episodes airing on the night. Losing over a third of your audience from one episode to the next this late in the season, especially when the episodes are airing on the same night, is unusual.
As we first posted when we were discussing the show’s ratings earlier this week, the Famous in Love live ratings are significantly skewed. Freeform made the entire season available for binge-watching in advance, and with this demographic there is a chance that many viewers may be recording it for consumption down the line. It’s difficult given the viewership measures being taken here to know accurately just how many people are actually tuning in for the show. The decision will come down to Freeform determining just what sort of potential there in continuing the show, with the added knowledge that if it returns, it’s not going to have the benefit of getting the incredible lead-in of Pretty Little Liars airing before it. That ship, unfortunately, is sailing off to the sunset right now.
