Dark Matter season 3, Wynonna Earp season 2 ratings down (so far)

Wynonna Earp season 2 ratings

The first Wynonna Earp season 2 ratings are in, and the results are a little bit of a bummer for the super-fun Syfy drama.

The first episode of season 2, which aired this past Friday on the network, ended up generating only a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is a pretty noticeable drop from the 0.2 that the series premiere received, and its viewer total in 460,000 viewers was down from the season 1 average. However, the show did draw more viewers than the season 1 finale, so it did showcase some strong retention in one regard.

As for the ratings for Dark Matter season 3 so far, they were also a little bit of a mixed bag. The two episodes that aired this past Friday averaged just under a 0.2 rating, and they posted on average just under 590,000 viewers. These are just under the season 2 average, but there’s a great silver lining: They over-performed a couple of season 2 episodes. It’s not as though the show is completely in the gutter.

There are a few things beyond these live ratings that may help these shows stay alive. For one, they are heavily recorded and watched after the fact, which is about what you would expect from a show that is airing on Friday nights in the summer. Meanwhile, they are also generating ratings from airing on Space in Canada and in some other parts of the world. It’d be great if they had more of a U.S. following, but we would be remiss to say that these shows are exclusively making money from being on Syfy.

From here on out, fingers crossed for some retention across the board. There is a pretty challenging dichotomy when it comes to these shows, mostly in that the science fiction generation is such that they are likely to watch TV via atypical means or after episodes air; yet, the best way to support a show is still by watching it live. Even if you don’t have a Nielsen Box, you can still take advantage of social media and let the powers that be know that you like engaging with the show.

We’d love to say we’re secure about the future of each show, but this is Syfy. We’ve been burned too many times to ever feel confident about any show’s future.
