World of Dance: Fik-Shun of So You Think You Can Dance auditions
This routine tonight combined a little bit of everything he can do into an emotional number that was meant to tell his story growing up with a split family. He was able to channel much of that into the performance, and use his body as any good dancer would in order to tell the story.
What makes Fik-Shun and his journey tonight very different is that he’s not just competing against other solo dancers, but also groups, duos, and so much more. Obviously, it was clear he was going to advance to the next round, and he received universal praise from the judges in the process. Overall, his score was a 91, one of the better scores we’ve seen on the show so far.
As for some other dancers appearing tonight…
The Lab – Probably one of the cooler kid-dance acts we’ve seen on the show in some time. They had personality, style, and didn’t feel forced up there by someone’s parents.
Miami All-Stars – Very good Latin dance group, who previously made it far on America’s Got Talent years ago. Strangely, they barely made it through.
Nick Daniels – The final dancer of the night, and someone who came on to tell a pretty powerful story through what he did. He was impressive, as many contemporary dancers are. Is he the same Nick Daniels that appeared on Dance Moms some time back? Given the show’s clear propensity for using established danced talent, that’s possible.
Overall, episode 2 was a step up from the premiere of World of Dance, at least in terms of finding a way to integrate a lot of great talent from a wide range of different people. Also, the judges and Jenna Dewan-Tatum did seem at times to have more fun.
