America’s Got Talent: Mandy Harvey gets Simon Cowell Golden Buzzer

Who was going to be the Simon Cowell Golden Buzzer act on America’s Got Talent tonight? It was teased early in the episode that it was coming, so it was a waiting game to see when it would be pressed.

Once again, the show did wait forever over the course of the entire episode in order to give you the golden buzzer, which came courtesy of singer Mandy Harvey. She lost her hearing many years ago as a result of a disorder, so she came on stage with a pretty powerful story to tell. We’ve seen many contestants come on stage after overcoming obstacles, and this audition is more about her talent ultimately than her circumstance.

Her audition her was a version of her original song “Try,” which she has performed for the past couple of years at least. (There are some versions up of it online.) She was singing before losing her hearing, and she was able to eventually find a way to get her hearing back thanks to some work and understanding vibrations and tempo. If you want to do something bad enough, this is proof that there are still some ways in which to ensure that it happens.

This was powerful, and you knew that from the moment she was done that she was getting the buzzer. Like we said, the show isn’t exactly creating much drama leading up to these moments. Simon pressed his buzzer before even getting into his critique, and that created another powerful moment in itself as she got a chance to take that in while the judges gave their feedback and they were interpreted back to her in turn.

Hopefully, viewers take away from this a sense of inspiration, and depending on what she does next, she does have a very good shot at making the finals and winning the entire season. It’s not assured for her, since she needs to have some other great songs up her sleeve and the story will be a little more familiar to viewers at that point.
