Outlander notes: World Outlander Day, book, and other highlights

World Outlander Day

In today’s edition of Outlander notes, there are (once again) a wide array of different things to celebrate — but let’s start with World Outlander Day!

Depending on when you are reading this article, it may be June 1 in your neck of the woods. June 1 is World Outlander Day, otherwise known as the anniversary of when the first Outlander novel by Diana Gabaldon was first published. Without this book there would obviously be no show, and the passionate fandom that exists around it. It’s a chance to celebrate with a little bit of reflection and discussion some favorite moments — even for those of us who haven’t read the books, it’s still an occasion to celebrate knowing the passion that went into creating them and the joy we have watching the show on TV.

To all of those having a celebration, slàinte! Here’s to many more great years of Outlander both onscreen and off.

As for some other assorted headlines…

Diana Gabaldon talks prequel on Jamie’s parents

For those of you who are book fans, the latest comments from Gabaldon via the Radio Times make it very clear that she is still interested in writing a story about Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, which should help to create a clearer picture for Jamie’s own origins:

“It’s more or less focused around the earlier Jacobite Rising in 1715, which resulted in the Battle of Sheriffmuir … We know the outlines of the story, that is that Brian came to Castle Leoch and fell in love at first sight with Ellen and essentially ended up abducting her form the castle under the noses of her brothers, with the help of his best friend Murtagh.”

Fingers crossed for more news there on the horizon, though it’s clear that Gabaldon has other writing priorities for now.
