Supergirl season 3: Floriana Lima opens up about reduced role
Lima opened up for the first time on the news in a series of posts on Twitter, making it clear that she has no plans to depart the show altogether:
“Sanvers fans are beautiful! The best part of playing Maggie is getting to share an inspiring LOVE story&representing the LGBTQ+ community… While this role was only meant for one season, I’m excited to appear in season 3, as we see the #Supergirl story unfold #Sanvers #NotOverYet”
What probably happened here feels pretty clear: Nobody knew how popular the Alex – Maggie relationship was going to be, so with that there wasn’t any way to sign up the latter character for several seasons after she first debuted. Getting more of her seems to be a direct reaction to just how popular she was, and it should prove interesting to see how the show writes around her in the event that Maggie and Alex remain romantically intertwined.
What makes all of this more interesting at present is seeing exactly where the writers left off the Maggie and Alex characters — Alex proposed to her! It was spur-of-the-moment, but it did feel like she meant it and a wedding on this show would be a heck of a lot of fun. It’s one of the few proper things that these superhero shows really haven’t had an opportunity to explore fully on The CW. The closest that we got was with Oliver and Felicity on Arrow season 4, and that wedding was more of a stunt in order to draw out the bad guys.

I can’t believe they want to give Maggie Sawyer less screentime than she already had in s2. A fantastic character that has been underused, even in her own romance story. I don’t understand why the writers didn’t integrate her more into the show, I hope they still want her (and Sanvers) around because it’s hard to fathom the show without her now — at least for me, anyway
