Katy Perry takes pride in American Idol salary for specific reason

American Idol salary

As many people may have heard, Katy Perry’s American Idol salary is already the stuff of legend. Reports have her making a whopping $25 million just for a single season, which puts her above any singer who has ever held a position on the show. It’s a salary that could make many people out there faint, and it’s also the sort of salary that could put the folks over at ABC make it clear that they are committed to this show. They need to get big ratings in order for the show to get its money back on it, so anticipate a heck of a lot of promotion.

So what does Katy have to say about this salary? Let’s just say that she’s not afraid to talk about the subject. In a new radio interview with 103.5 KTU, she explained a little more of why she’s so willing to take pride in it:

“You know, I think there’s a couple ways to go about answering that question. One is, first and foremost, the news, the media. I kinda stopped doing a whole lot of print media and I only do radio and TV because context is wild these days. Nobody cares about intention. It’s all clickbait. It’s all a bunch of crap on the Internet. I think ‘www’ stands for wild, wild, west … I’m [also] really proud that, as a woman, I got paid. And you know why? I got paid like more than like pretty much any guy that’s been on that show.”

The only person to be paid more for doing the show was Simon Cowell, but that made some sense given that without his presence, it’s hard to imagine that the show would have ever existed in the first place. He was brutally honest, and as a result of that, viewers flocked to the show.

Perry will start filming the upcoming season of American Idol a little bit later this year presumably, and based on early indications, new episodes of the show will start up in 2018. Here’s to hoping that this is as big of a hit as ABC wants it to be.
