Ratings: Rachel Lindsay’s Bachelorette down vs. JoJo Fletcher premiere

Rachel Lindsay's Bachelorette ratings

Did Rachel Lindsay’s Bachelorette ratings suffer in their first outing? They were certainly far from bad, but also worse than recent outings.

Overall, Lindsay’s first episode drew a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is down from the 2.0 that the first episode of JoJo Fletcher’s season last year. The past few premieres have scored just as well if not better, but there is still time for some things to change in the weeks ahead based on what viewership trends are. For now, it doesn’t seem right to attribute the drop to anything other than just a fairly busy season finale season, plus maybe some reactions to some other breaking news going on last night. Cable news viewership was probably higher than usual.

Ultimately, The Bachelorette is in general a little more lower-rated than The Bachelor, so it’s never a shock to see it score a little bit worse. It remains a ratings powerhouse, though, and we do continue to expect to see all sorts of crazy promotion from it over the course of the coming weeks.

With that, who is ready for a little bit of Jimmy Kimmel fun? Note that you may still want to shy away from the video below if you are extremely spoiler-averse.

Below, Kimmel presents to Rachel his “picks” for who he thinks will be her final three this season. If these were normal picks, that’d be one thing; yet, it’s been pretty clear that Jimmy’s producers / his wife (who puts this together) just go over to Reality Steve and read some of the spoilers before putting this on the air. Maybe it’s different this year, but this is why we put the warning above just in case Kimmel and his team have opted to take things in a similar direction this time when it comes to some of the information that they’re deciding to give away in advance. (The big surprise is why ABC lets Kimmel get away with this; then again, they know that spoilers are often floating around out there.)
