The Voice finale: About Lauren Duski original song ‘Deja Vu’
This song, as Lauren shared throughout the night leading up to the show airing, is an original that is based on some events personal to her life. She is the only member of the final four to have a writing credit on her song, which gives her a personal connection that could help to nudge her over the top on her way to winning the entire competition in the end.
Ultimately, for a country singer in particular, one of the things that does matter the most is being able to tell a story with your lyrics, and forge a connection to the audience. You don’t need to be some unattainable ideal or strive for some abstract visual art form in the country genre; you need to be able to relate to your listeners, and for them to feel like you share a similar experience and understand their lives. This song will be based on some hard times, and that’s something that is probably relatable even beyond just the country genre.
It’s hard to gauge for sure if this song will be popular on iTunes in advance of it being played on the show, but early indications are from listening to the preview that it has a very good shot of appealing to both her and Blake Shelton’s base. At the moment, Lauren is the favorite to win when you think in terms of both the history of similar artists in the finale, and also her body of work and sales history so far this season. They’ve all been consistently strong, and this gives you a good bit to look forward to over the course of the season.
For those wondering, Lauren’s other songs in the finale include a duet with Blake Shelton of the Hank Williams Jr. hit “There’s a Tear in My Beer.” She’s also performing “The Dance” by Garth Brooks, which alone is enough of a reason to assume that she’ll be winning the competition. There is no one better than Garth when it comes to appealing to multiple generations of country fans.
