American Gods episode 5 spoilers: The reunion, interrupted

Going into American Gods episode 5 on Starz next week, it is certainly clear that Shadow Moon’s life is flipped once more. First, he finds out that his wife Laura died right before he was going to have a chance to be reunited from her. Then, he found out the pretty horrifying way in which she died.

At the end of tonight’s episode, what he effectively learned was that Laura Moon is back. Maybe he doesn’t know or understand the circumstances of it yet (including the rather-impressive stitching that she had done), but she’s back nonetheless and will play an integral role in the story to come.

However, don’t expect a lot of time to be focused on the reunion between these two characters thanks in part due to a most unfortunate situation involving Shadow and Mr. Wednesday.

American Gods episode 5 synopsis – “Shadow’s emotional reunion with his dead and unfaithful wife is interrupted when he and Mr. Wednesday are kidnapped by the New Gods.”

What sort of showdown is this going to lead to? This is one of the interesting questions that you have to wonder as the story presses onward, and further questions arise as to whether or not the New Gods can get Shadow on their side. Earlier this season Media clearly tried, and you have to assume that some of these attempts are far from over. There is a war between the new and old gods brewing, and there will be people caught in the crosshairs. Laura’s role in it is going to be especially significant over time; imagine this to be a perfect combination of entertaining, compelling, and heartbreaking. Given that this is a Bryan Fuller series, it’s also highly likely that we are set to see some more visual marvels in the process.

Promo – This gives you a further glimpse of what’s next for Laura and Shadow, but this also stretches beyond that and looks a little bit more at some further complications that could be coming in terms of Mr. Wednesday and Shadow finding themselves trapped.
