Saturday Night Live: Haim perform, ‘Want You Back,’ ‘Give Me Just a Little of Your Love’

Want You Back

Haim was the musical guest on this weekend’s new Saturday Night Live episode, and they performed a song in “Want You Back.” How was it? It was intimate, but also fun and fairly catchy. It wasn’t the most elaborate performance in the history of the show, but it really didn’t need to be.

This was a pleasant performance with simple staging, and the group’s three members delivered what was a good vocal with good harmonies. Solid all around. It may have been enough to introduce potential fans to the group, which is precisely what you want anytime someone is on the show.

As for the song itself, “Want You Back” is a very new number from the band, so much like LCD Soundsystem last week, this was a performance based mostly on timing. They’ve been on the show before, so it probably was to their benefit that they had that sort of experience in advance.

The second performance that the brand performances was “Give Me Just a Little of Your Love,” and it was by and large a really fun in its own way. It was upbeat and had an old-school rock vibe; yet, the lyrics still had a modern sensibility to them and felt perfect for the era and the audience.

Overall, what Haim brought to the show for the most part was an ability to bring something a little bit different to the show than any viewer is accustomed to seeing — a rock band fronted by three women who mold a variety of genres into the music. (Who didn’t love some of the instrumental parts in the second song?)

Following this, the finale next week is going to have a very specific musical style sense Katy Perry will be present to perform some of her new songs. Given that she is a former host for the show, there is also a good chance that she will also appear in a sketch or two along the way. You know that she, as an outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter, is going to want to mock Donald Trump.
