New Absentia teasers: Stana Katic, the mystery pool, and more
There have been several new images posted by the show’s official account since we last posted an update — remember, the last story we took on was more about the subject of episode count rather than anything pertaining to specific images. That’s given us a chance to refresh, take a good look at some of these pictures, and try to figure out what they could mean.
Before diving in, here’s a quick refresher that the Sony AXN series features Stana Katic as an FBI agent, one who disappeared after chasing a serial killer in Boston. She’s found several years later in a cabin with no memory of what happened over the course of the time she was gone. There is no firm premiere date for the project just yet; hopefully, that is something that will be coming out soon.
Teaser #1 – Alone in the woods. There are several different ways to read this image and the message “the most alone she’s ever felt.” This could be a reference to where Katic’s character was located; or, this could be a reference to how alone she feels as a result of her experience. This is something many kidnapping victims feel given that nobody else, despite their efforts to emphasize, ever really can. They don’t know or understand the PTSD that can come with something so brutal and so terrible. It may also be the feeling of loneliness that comes from having no memory – family, friends, great loves, great losses… all gone.
Teaser #2 – This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen an image of a lap pool, which does make us wonder just how this could be factoring into the overall story. If we had to guess, we’d say that this is a place where our lead has some sort of emotional connection (like Stella Gibson in The Fall). Maybe it’s how she unwinds, or how she works past some of her problems and gets in touch with her past. Or, maybe the connection is a bit more visceral, as though something terrible happened to her here. There is obviously a reason why we’re seeing it on multiple occasions.
The quote “She keeps on, trapped in the maze” is a reminder that few things are as frustrating as the feeling of frustration itself — wanting some results and understanding, but feeling unable to get it. This photo is also a great example Katic’s acting and how much she can convey just with a single look and no dialogue. You can see concern, trauma, and fear within the expression Katic is giving you here. You can tell that this is someone who has been through something significant and life-altering.
