Call the Midwife season 6 episode 6 synopsis – “Valerie Dyer oversees the care of an expectant Somali woman and is shocked when she uncovers a troubling aspect of this unfamiliar culture. The Nonnatus family unites to provide the very best care for Sister Mary Cynthia.”
Given that it was announced before the season aired, we don’t think that there is much of a spoiler to say that genital mutilation is the reason why Valerie is going to be struggling when it comes to her case. She will have a very specific viewpoint when it comes to this case, and there will be some pointed opposition when it comes to her patient. The biggest thing to remember here is that what may be right in Valerie’s eyes may not be the same as what is right when it comes to comes to her patient.
As for the remainder of the episode, the Sister Mary Cynthia storyline is going to be a reflection of the fact that not everyone is going to recovery easily from trauma; as a matter of fact, it’s more of the norm that they do not. This story will explore some of that, and there are no guarantees of a happy end.
While next week may be the final one for another British import on PBS in Home Fires, consider this your friendly reminder that this is not the case when it comes to Call the Midwife. There will be two more episodes to come this season beyond episode 6.
