Arrow season 5 episode 20 synopsis: The Oliver – Felicity episode ‘Underneath’

Oliver - Felicity episode

We figure that many Arrow fans out there are aware that there is a big Oliver – Felicity episode ahead. Now, we’ve got details!

As many of you out there know already, “Underneath” is the title for this episode; it’s been widely reported already that Stephen Amell spends the bulk of this episode (as in, the entirety of his scenes) with Emily Bett Rickards, and the official synopsis below gives you a further sense as to why:

“Things get intense when Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are trapped in the bunker together. Meanwhile, Lyla (guest star Audrey Marie Andreson) and Diggle (David Ramsey) deal with their martial issues.”

Sometimes, it takes people being stuck together in unusual situation in order to let their guard down and start talking about their feelings; for these two characters, maybe this is precisely what they needed in order to put some more of their cards on the table. We hope so, since we do think that one of the best things that could happen for Oliver and Felicity is that they start being upfront about some of their issues and what happened both with their engagement and the aftermath of it.

For the time being, we’d describe their relationship as one of “existing.” They aren’t really emoting to one another, but they’re functional. They are doing what they need to do in order to get the job done. We’re not saying that they will get back together within “Underneath,” but this should give them opportunities to pave the way for a future relationship in the event that it’s something that the writers want to do. The one thing that these characters will continue to have in common is a common link because of everything that they’ve been through together. This is something that no other prospective love interest will ever have. Not all of that history is good history, but it is history nonetheless and it’s far from the sort of thing that can be ignored. We’ll just have to see how it manifests itself as we get closer to the end of the season.
