Marvel’s The Defenders premiere date revealed in subtle new teaser
In the video below, you can see a new clip featuring Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), one that requires you to do a little bit of research in order to figure out that the premiere date is actually going to be August 18. You can see a clue to the numbers in the top right of the elevator video. Meanwhile, if you enter the numbers from the top left into your web browser, you’ll be navigated over to the New York Bulletin. From there, you’ll be able to get further confirmation of the premiere date. (It’s located at the very bottom of the page.)
We have to give Marvel and Netflix some serious credit for their brilliance here, given that this is a pretty smart, innovative way in which to ensure that you get people watching and talking about your show. Any way that you can think of to do this is an opportunity that you have to jump on, especially if you can find a way to do this that drives a little bit of social engagement to go along with it.
The Defenders is obviously what the company’s been building towards for the past couple of years, an epic team-up show that features the likes of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. How this is going to work is a big part of the mystery for now, given that it’s reminiscent of some of the recent CW superhero crossovers where you’ve got some characters who are significantly more powerful than some of the others. On that show, the struggle was how to make Oliver Queen a powerful component to the story given that you also have The Flash and Supergirl, who is easily the most overpowered of the entire bunch. (It feels like Barry Allen could just run in, lock Prometheus up, and the majority of the story of Arrow season 5 could be over in a split second.)
