Comedy Central to give Anthony Atamanuik’s Donald Trump a show

Anthony Atamanuik

Remember That’s My Bush? Well, apparently Comedy Central’s interest now in Anthony Atamanuik’s The President Show.

Today, the network officially confirmed that they will be airing this series starring on Thursday, April 27, and it will feature the famed Anthony Atamanuik impression of Donald Trump talking about all sorts of issues. This story was first rumored late last week, but at the time it was a little more challenging to give additional context on it since there wasn’t all that much known about what the show’s format would be. Our concern was that it would be four times a week, and with that, there were clear concerns about whether that would be Trump overkill. After all, there is too much of a good thing that people can take, and there were concerns about Trump burnout even before this.

With all of that being said, it was clear that the Atamanuik Trump was going to get more play somewhere soon. There was a general sentiment on the internet that he could be hired by Saturday Night Live in the event that Alec Baldwin ever decided that he didn’t want to do the impression anymore; now, we’ve got this news instead.

In a statement, here is what Anthony had to say about launching the show:

“Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department … But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”

Ultimately, this idea feels like That’s My Bush combined with The Colbert Report, but it’ll be dependent on being both hilarious and also different than anything that we’ve seen on the show to date. We actually think that Anthony’s impression of Trump is better than Baldwin’s, but he needs to up the ridiculous factor ever so slightly to match him in terms of comedy … though Trump is pretty ridiculous on his own.

Do you think this idea for a show is funny, or is this the sort of Trump cash-in that’s going to get old very quickly? Be sure to share your thoughts below! (Photo: Comedy Central.)
