Ratings: Looking at the Chicago Justice season 2 renewal odds
With that said, we are fairly confident that we will see the other three iterations of the franchise back, and this is the only one that we’re explicitly concerned about. Last night, Chicago Justice drew a series-low rating of a 0.9 in the 18-49 demographic plus also 5.8 million viewers. Those aren’t terrible numbers (especially in total viewers), but NBC’s a network with some high expectations.
The biggest cause of concern that we’ve got about the show’s future is that every week now, we’ve gradually seen the series start to lose a little bit of momentum. Anytime that this happens, you do start to develop a little bit of fear that you’re going to see things continue to slide until the show’s over. The biggest thing that Chicago Justice can do now to stop the bleeding for a little bit is simply level things off a little bit.
Oh, and of course it can also celebrate not having to air against The Walking Dead for the first time next week. While we’re not sure how big of a crossover audience there is between the two, it never hurts to have that many potential viewers available for your own series. If even just a small handful of Walking Dead fans come over to this show, you’ll start to feel like there is a reasonably good chance of a renewal. The biggest things that are hurting Chicago Justice at the moment are the timeslot, the distance from the other One Chicago shows, and then also the competition.
Here’s the good news — NBC already renewed Shades of Blue, despite it generating worse numbers than Chicago Justice. Given that this show stars Jennifer Lopez, you have to assume that it’s pricey. We do think that Chicago Justice is worthy of a season 2, and the more time it has on the air, the better off it’s going to be and the happier we’re going to be as viewers.
For the time being, let’s just keep our eyes peeled on the ratings for the next few episodes and hope for the best. Speaking of which, be sure to head over here to watch a promo for the next new Chicago Justice episode!
