MasterChef Junior season 5 episode 7 video: Buttering up Richard Blais
This time around, Blais (who we fondly remember still for winning Top Chef All-Stars) is working with a much younger group of clientele, and as you can see in the sneak peek, he specifically asks one of the chefs-in-the-making in Syd about the chicken dish that she’s working on. She gives him some of the answers he’s seeking, and they get involved in a pretty funny back-and-forth in which she tells him that he’s 23 years old and he ends up just going with it. Why not?
In actuality, Richard is … well, who cares! It’s funnier to just go with him being 23. He’s got a good sense of humor about it. We’re honestly not sure if Syd was buttering him up or not, but it’s even funnier if that’s the case and she’s trying to bribe her way into his favor.
There are only twelve young chefs still in the running this season, and we imagine that from here on our, things are only going to become more intense. The synopsis below via Fox gives you a further sense as to what’s coming up, and how the sneak preview relates to what the actually challenge is:
“Guest judge Richard Blais enters the kitchen to see what the kids can cook up. In the first challenge, the Top 12 junior home cooks team up into groups of three and have 10 minutes to make as many pies as possible. The winning team will be safe from elimination and will get to give the judges a sweet surprise! For the next challenge, the young chefs must use a blow torch to make either an appetizer, entrée, or dessert using ingredients from the MASTERCHEF pantry. Then, it’s up to the judges to decide who stays and who goes home.”

If you missed it, yesterday we posted our exit interviews with both Donovan and Mashu, who were the two most-recently-eliminated kids from the competition. You can read those over at the link here.
After tonight’s episode, the cycle begins again! We’ll have a review, and then exit interviews potentially at some point next week. (Photo: Fox.)
