MasterChef Junior interview: Donovan Millstein talks show experience, fun TV moments
It was also rather fun to get some email responses back from Donovan about his time on the show! Take a look below to see what he had to say about why he wanted to be on MasterChef Junior, and just how cool it was for him to spend some time with Chef Gordon Ramsay, someone he’s been watching on TV for quite a while.
CarterMatt – What made you want to be a part of the show this season?
Donovan Millstein – I love cooking and watching cooking competitions. Of course I’m a big fan of MasterChef Junior. So, when I found out there was a MCJ audition really close to my house, I figured I had to give it shot!
Was there any one moment this season that you enjoyed watching back on TV?
Actually there were a few! Probably my favorite was when I flambéed the bok choy and the fire shot up really high!
What was the hardest part of doing the competition this season?
It’s really hard to come up with a plan at the beginning of a timed challenge, race to the pantry, get all of the correct ingredients, and on top of that, get enough of each of the correct ingredients! Several times I was going so fast that I forgot something or just didn’t take enough of an important ingredient.
You got to meet a lot of cool people this season! Whether it be Gordon, Christina, or one of the guest judges, who were you the most excited to meet?
I may have been one of the youngest contestants, but I’ve been watching Gordon on TV for as long as I can remember. So having the chance to cook with him, and learn from him was just magical!
Has doing the show inspired you to cook and try new things?
Definitely. I’ve been pushing myself to learn more about baking and pastry making. Since everyone in my house loves chocolate, I think my family is really enjoying my chocolate making experiments!
