Dancing with the Stars 24 spotlight: Will Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd have a real shot at winning?

Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd are the final participants in our Dancing with the Stars 24 spotlight series, and when it comes to current relevance, few other pairs have what these two are bringing to the table. Nick of course is coming off of being The Bachelor, while in the case of Peta, she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy welcomed a child just last year and they’ll be working with their partners and raising an infant at the same time.

Basically, this is going to be a very eventful next couple of months for Nick and Peta! We know that they’ll get headlines, but there are still many questions regarding just how well the two of them are actually going to dance.

Claim to fame – Former star of The Bachelor, and also two seasons of The Bachelorette and also Bachelor in Paradise. Nick’s been around the block when it comes to ABC reality television, so to us it felt like a complete no-brainer that he would end up competing on this season, especially given some of the ratings that his recent season brought to the network.

Partner – Peta Murgatroyd. Since winning with Nyle DiMarco, she’s been unable to defend her title. This marks that opportunity. She’s also won the competition with Donald Driver. Nick is not the first Bachelor that she’s been partnered with, as she also previously made it to sixth place with Sean Lowe following his own season.

Strengths – Nick has an established fan base, and timing here is clearly a factor for him. He’ll probably be able to compensate for any bad dancing the first couple of weeks with having people behind him. He’ll also certainly receive plenty of outreach and attention coming off of the season and his engagement to Vanessa Grimaldi.

Weaknesses – Here’s where things get dicey. Nick is good TV, but we’re not sure how likable he is in comparison to someone like Sean. We don’t know if he’ll be able to win over anyone who doesn’t already like him, and given that he’s so tall, it’s easy to imagine that he could struggle when it comes to dance technique. There’s also going to be a big mental challenge when it comes to doing this show. He’s finally able to spend time now with his fiancee in public, but will be devoting so much of his time to doing this show instead. The tabloids are going to be all over him, and that takes a toll.

Prediction – Nick’s probably going to finish somewhere between ninth and seventh place. We don’t see him making it as far as Sean, but given his following, it’s also going to be rather tough to envision him going the very first week. Nick is obviously a known name within his franchise, but we’re not sure if that translates or not.
