Big Brother Canada 5: Karen Singbeil pre-game interview (exclusive)

One of the biggest complains that we always have about Big Brother (really any version of the show) is that the majority of the people cast are the ones in twenties and early thirties. Only rarely do we see people who are a little bit older brought into the game, but that is precisely what we’ve got this time with Karen Singbeil. The 53-year old living in Victoria, British Columbia (she is actually originally from Missouri) is not only the oldest contestant this season, but she’s also a huge fan of the show.

Going into this Karen Singbeil pre-game interview, we wanted to be very hopeful and optimistic about her Big Brother Canada 5 chances. However, there is one issue that we found with her pretty quickly — and you’ll soon see what it is.

CarterMatt – What made you want to try out for Big Brother Canada?

Karen Singbeil – I’ve tried out for every season. It’s all coming together for [season 5] — I’m here now and I’m super-excited.

If you could compare yourself to someone from Big Brother Canada or Big Brother US, who would it be?

What’s something about you that would surprise people?

Well, I am 53 years old, I have three sons — 20, 21, and 22 years old — and I am a Canadian and American citizen.

Do you have a specific strategy entering the house?

Yes. To target mind and muscle, and get them out first.

How are you going to implement that strategy?

I’m going to try to win the first Head of Household so I could try to get a chance to talk to everyone, getting inside their head and building trust.

What do you think your biggest weakness could be?

Definitely my knees.

Is there anything that you’re nervous about entering the house?

Yes, pretty much everything (laughs).

Other than winning the money, what’s the one thing you’re hoping to get out of this experience? ?

Just being for a fan as long as I am, I’m living the dream. This is so surreal right now and so cool to be here.

Our snap judgment

There is one of these people every season who gives us almost nothing to go on, and Karen is to this season as Kelsey was to last season. (Kelsey was far more talkative after the game, so doing the show clearly helped to open her up.) We do think that she seems to be a nice person and that she should help her — we’re inclined to root for her as a fellow Dual Citizen — but the unfortunate truth here is that we don’t have enough to go on here to be confident. We’re not sure that she can get away with betraying people in the game and then have them come back and want to vote for her to win.
