Major Crimes season 5, episode 16 preview: Amy Sykes’ credibility on the line
Major Crimes season 5, episode 16 is right around the corner, and for the sake of this article, we’re going to cast the focus on the person who will seemingly be one of the stars of the episode: Kearran Giovanni. Amy Sykes will be at the center of “Quid Pro Quo,” as we’re going to see an episode based mostly around a trial. This is going to cause some problems for Amy, mostly because of the return of Mark Hickman and questions as to whether or not she is going to be able to keep her case together while taking questions on the stand.
Specifically, the promo below makes one of the main issue she’s going to be facing rather clear: That she withheld information from the defense. She’s basically going to make it so much easier for this side of the court battle to pick her apart. Once you get a way in, you’re going to attack — this is especially the case when you are talking about a high-powered defense attorney who is more than experienced in dealing with these sort of situations.
Synopsis – “A murder case goes sideways at trial when defense attorney Linda Rothman (guest star Jeri Ryan) is able to destroy Det. Amy Sykes’s credibility on the stand. Helping Rothman as a defense investigator is Amy’s old nemesis, Mark Hickman (guest star Jason Gedrick).”
It’s going to be great to have Ryan back on the show, especially since she has not been on the show in over a year and we do think that this show in particular is always better when you’ve got some good adversaries out there to throw against some of the detectives. It adds to the overall intrigue of the show. You want them to get the guilty parties behind bars, but you also don’t want it to be too easy. After all, if it is there really isn’t all that much of a case that you have to take on.
One other reminder
We’re in the midst right now of our TV Madness tournament for the month, and Major Crimes is currently one of the shows up for contention. If you want to vote for it or read up further about the tournament, you can do so over at the link here. (Photo: TNT.)

Can anyone tell me who Mrs. Chandler (?) is from this episode? I’ve seen that actress in something else, and it’s driving me batty!

Amy is definitely one of my favorite characters.
If she did something wrong, maybe that will further fuel Winnie Davis’s battle against Raydor.
I expect a great episode tonight.

I am really looking forward to this one. Amy is an interesting character and somewhat of a not so chartered territory. I think she is the smartest member of the team (second to the boss, of course ;-)). Therefore, I was a little dissatisfied with the way her first encounter with Mark Hickman was dealt with in the “Hindsight” arc in season 4. She really dropped the ball there and didn’t even get a slap on the wrist. There was so much potential in that storyline, it’s a pity it wasn’t used. Maybe we’ll get some kind of an aftermath or a resolution now. Anyway, I can’t wait for the story to unfold.
