Dancing with the Stars 24 spotlight: Is the future for Simone Biles and Sasha Farber golden?

Simone Biles and Sasha Farber -

Going into this season of Dancing with the Stars, we’re hard-pressed to say that any potential partnership has the potential of Simon Biles and Sasha Farber. You’ve got an Olympic gold-medal gymnast, and someone who may be even more famous than last season’s winner Laurie Hernandez. Then, you’ve also go a professional dancer hungry for their first Mirrorball Trophy.

While it would be very easy to crown Simone the winner right now (she is, to the surprise of no one, our pick to take the trophy home in the end), we do think that there are some things she’ll need to work on and overcome. That is a part of the focus of this particular spotlight piece!

Claim to fame – Winning five Olympic medals, including four golds, during the Rio 2016 games over the summer. Like Hernandez, she was a part of the Final Five team.

Partner – Sasha Farber. He tends to be paired with many of the contestants who are smaller in stature, which is why some of his past celebrities include Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Terra Jole from the most recent season. He’s accomplished, and like we said, probably hungry for his first win.

Strengths – She’s obviously incredibly athletic, and there is a certain part of gymnastics that requires choreography. You have to assume that she’s going to know a thing or two about moving to music, and she’s got a source of unlimited feedback and advice in her friend Laurie. To be fair, she could also go back and ask Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson for advice also, given that they’ve been a part of some of the show and done fairly well in the past.

Also, to go along with her ability, she’s already extremely popular and considered to be one of the biggest stars from the Olympics this past year. Her following is huge, and probably hasn’t faded all that much.

Weaknesses – The main thing she’s up against is blowback from some viewers about the parity of the show. There are a contingent of people out there who feel like people like Simone and Heather Morris have too much of an advantage, and will just destroy everyone. If that contingent is larger than we think, it could be trouble — and that’s a shame since it would be through no fault of her own. She’s on the show, so you can’t punish her for wanting to be a part of something this fun and this entertaining.

Prediction – Like we said, Simone is probably going to win this season, but we do hope that it challenges her and not everything comes altogether easy. The show is better when it pushes everyone to their limits. Simone’s going to have imperfect weeks, but she should be fine with the right about of support helping her to get by.
