One Day at a Time renewed by Netflix for season 2
Deadline confirmed the renewal earlier today, while also making it clear that Machado, Moreno, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz and Stephen Tobolowsky will return for more of the series. This is the sort of show that was expected to come back in the first place. Netflix is as patient as it comes to some of their scripted series, and they’ll be inclined to give almost anything another go so long as there is the appearance of some support there among their base. They don’t disclose ratings, so it’s very hard to determine precisely how anything is doing at a given time.
What we do know is that this is a show that could get funnier and funnier as time goes on and you get to know the characters more. Reviews for the first season were overwhelmingly positive, and there were some parties out there who were even thrilled for the prospect of seeing the show shift the focus to a Cuban-American family. It kept the original tone and feel of the show, while at the same time bringing another new element to the product that was interesting and exciting.
This series continues the network’s efforts to bring you as much different comedy as possible. The service already has a strong presence in the stand-up world, and with Fuller House, they’ve got another show that is designed specifically to appeal to nostalgic people out there. With BoJack Horseman and F is for Family, they’re moving more into a realm where they can play a little bit more with animation and do some crazy, experimental things there.
There is no word just yet on when the second season of One Day at a Time will air, but we’re prepared to hand down a little bit more news on the subject as soon as it becomes available.
