Star Trek: Discovery could premiere in late summer, early fall
Still, the network’s CEO in Les Moonves does want to make it very clear that there will be episodes of this show, which is starring Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, and many others, at some point a little bit later this year. Specifically, he said the following (per Deadline) while at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference:
“It’s important to get it right, and Star Trek is the family jewels. We’re not going to rush it in. There’s a lot of post production. But I’m very confident based on what I’ve seen so far.”
The series is in production, and will launch at some point in the late summer or early fall depending on if there are some other delays that come up. We want to get excited about it, just like we do want to get excited about any edition of a franchise this prolific. It has a good cast, but we were probably more psyched when we knew that Bryan Fuller had direct involvement. Now, we’re a tad more nervous.
Also, there are still questions about whether or not casual Trekkers are going to be altogether interested in paying almost $6 (or almost $10 with commercials) a month for one show if they’re not watching anything else. CBS All Access is a pretty good service for some things, such as the Big Brother live feeds and now The Good Fight. Yet, it still needs to really figure out how to get those consistent viewers and flagship shows that get people hooked consistently. It took a little bit of time to Hulu to get there, and maybe it could be the same thing here.
