After Jimmy Kimmel hosts Oscars, Anthony Anderson takes on aftershow

Oscars -

For those wanting an Anthony Anderson Oscar aftershow, (or the many of you wanted it without actually knowing it existed), we’re going to be getting that this weekend!

Following the news of Jimmy Kimmel hosting the Academy Awards themselves this year, there was a problem. Kimmel was famous for doing a special after the show featuring many A-list guests and huge viral videos. That’s a little hard to do this year, even if he tapes right across the street from the Dolby Theater.

ABC confirmed that instead, black-ish star Anthony Anderson is going to be co-hosting with Lara Spencer a program entitled Live from Hollywood: The After Party on the network. This will feature interviews, reactions, and a whole lot more from the big awards show. Will it capture the internet’s attention in the same way the Kimmel special did? It’s hard to say, but Anthony is a funny, affable guy with a TON of talent. If anyone should be able to take the gig on, it’s going to be him.

It remains to be seen what ABC will do for the 2018 show. Specifically, it could depend on what they want to do with Kimmel. If he kills as host this year, maybe there will be an interest in bringing him back. If not, then they can put him back as host of the aftershow once more. There is a clear reason why they’d want to do this: Ratings. They know that there are millions of people who will watch his special. Anderson and Spencer’s afterparty show is a little bit more of a risk, but a calculated one.

As for the Oscars themselves…

CarterMatt is not a movie site and we haven’t even seen many of the movies up for Oscar gold this year. With that being said, it’s easy to root for some TV-star nominees like How to Get Away with Murder star Viola Davis or Mahershala Ali of Moonlight. It took us an awards show or two in order to realize it, but he was a central part of The 4400 on USA, one of our favorite sci-fi shows from that era.
