‘Timeless’ season 2: Show exec on (possible) aftermath of Jiya twist

Timeless -Tonight, the season 1 finale of “Timeless” brought many epic twists and turns to the table. Specifically, we learned that both Emma and Lucy’s mother were in Rittenhouse, and both Lucy and Flynn as a result of that made some severe miscalculations when it came to how they wanted to handle their journey through time this season.

We’ve got a good sense of what’s at least going on with the Rittenhouse shockers; we’re a little more in the dark on Jiya, who started seeing things across different time periods in her final scene with Rufus. What was going on there? This is something that executive producer Eric Kripke described to TVLine with the following message:

“There’s something very mysterious happening to her. She was affected by being the fourth person in the machine, and what she ends up seeing is this flickering between the Golden Gate Bridge present day and then the year when it was being constructed. What does that mean, and what is happening to her, and what is she able to see, and how does that grow and change in Season 2 becomes part of the story. The only mild spoiler that I’ll say about it is one of my all-time favorite books is Slaughterhouse-Five, [which is] about a man who becomes unstuck in time, and that was part of the inspiration for what is starting to happen to Jiya.”

That sounds amazing, but the problem now is trying to figure out if we’re going to see it. The show’s fate hangs in the balance for season 2, and it’s firmly on the bubble when it comes to the ratings. There are a number of things that NBC will likely consider, whether it be DVR figures, online streams, their upcoming pilots, and also overall enthusiasm. The reality is that the show doesn’t get great ratings, but we argue that keeping it and moving it to Fridays could be the best situation for everyone. It’d be a natural replacement for “Grimm,” and this opens up the timeslot for something else.
