As ‘Timeless’ finale nears, here’s how you can fight for season 2 renewal

Timeless -Fellow members of the Time Team, Monday night presents a critical hour — it’s the final episode of “Timeless” for season 1, and the last opportunity that we have in order to celebrate the show that’s been such a fun bit of escapism and adventure in a challenging, at-times confusing period of history. (Admittedly, there have been times in which it’s felt like we’ve jumped further into the past). “Timeless” is a show that we want back, and if you’re reading this article, we hope that you do, as well!

As a result of that, we figured that we would present a few little suggestions for you here in this article as a means to further ensure that the finale gets the biggest rating possible, and also the biggest overall impact on social media.

1. Watch live – This one is essential, especially if you have a Nielsen box or know someone who does. (If you do, make sure you find a way to convince them to watch!) We can complain ’til the cows come home about the outdated and difficult ways in which numbers are tabulated for these shows, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is just how people do things right now. There’s no way to actually change things, so you just have to deal with it and try to capitalize on the ratings system as best you can. Maybe your friend has a Nielsen box so you just crash at their place and eat their food while watching the show.

2. If you can’t watch live, watch via a monetized platform – Either check it out on NBC.com the next day, or head over to an official streaming partner like Hulu to ensure that you’re properly supporting show. Commercials may stink, but they keep the show on the air. Don’t take the easy way out and find a way to watch that doesn’t help anyone but yourself. Don’t be selfish!

3. Trend and trend often – The hashtags #Timeless and #RenewTimeless are great, but if the fandom can come up with a brand new hashtag and spike that out of nowhere, there’s a good chance to get that trending because it could come out of nowhere. Do everything that you can to turn Twitter into a fun, interactive experience. A strong social-media footprint can help a show be renewed because it’s free advertising. Maybe it’s a little late for people to catch up now, but if they hear about the show over the summer, maybe they’ll binge and catch up before season 2.

In the end, don’t start fighting to save the show after the finale ends. Do it now, since that may be the #1 thing that gives it a reasonable shot. NBC needs to be convinced that the audience for season 2 will be just as great, if not greater.

One last thing before we sign off here — we’re going to have a full interview tomorrow with Malcolm Barrett about Rufus’ arc this season, the danger he’s in entering the finale, and his own take on the season 2 renewal odds. We’ll have this full interview published in the morning, so it is absolutely worth checking out.
