‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Is the Black Fairy’s getting her own episode?
We know that there’s been a significant amount of time as of late discussing “Once Upon a Time” through the lens of the wish-world and everything going on there with Emma and Regina — given that we are self-professed Robin Hood fans, we’re definitely invested in what is going on there.
Then again, we’re also very much invested in the tale of the Black Fairy. We know that she is Rumpelstiltskin’s mother, just as we’re also aware that she exists in a world that is very different from any other. Time moves differently there, and in visiting this world, we hope that there will be some opportunities to better see and understand exactly who she is, what she wants, and what her desired endgame will be. (Plus, Jaime Murray’s great, so any further opportunity we have to see her is one that we’re going to take.
It’s been well-documented already that Murray will have an important role in the second half of this season — it’s not entirely clear how many episodes she’ll be in, but as the title for this story alludes to the fact that she could have one coming that is all about her character!
Per co-showrunner Adam Horowitz (see the tweet below), the 19th episode this season, written by Jerome Schwartz and Dana Horgan, is entitled “The Black Fairy.” Do you think the show’s really going to title the story this and then NOT feature the character? That’d be like naming your store “lots of candy” before going in and having someone tell you “sorry, no candy, you’ve been tricked this whole time!”. Not sure how the internet would respond to that.
For the time being, the Black Fairly seems like she could be the Big Bad for the upcoming episodes, but that’s perception. We feel like we’ve seen enough “Once Upon a Time” over the years to know that perception does not always equal reality, and there are certainly many opportunities ahead for the show to re-work our expectations into something else entirely.
For now, tell us what you want to see in this episode, and for the Black Fairy in general!
