‘The Bachelor’ episode 7 review: Corinne Olympios tries to sleep with Nick Viall; who made hometown dates?
For most of the season on “The Bachelor,” what we ended up seeing was a series of weird and uncomfortable moments … but none were more uncomfortable than Corinne Olympios trying to sleep with Nick Viall in his hotel room.
This episode featured Nick showing a little bit of humility, as he admitted that sleeping with Kaitlyn Bristowe in the middle of her season was a mistake. It was something that turned him into a pariah among the other guys, and also added a little bit of undue pressure to the relationship that he had with her.
So when Corinne paid him a visit late at night in hopes of “igniting” something else in their relationship (you know what she has to say about you-know-what being “platinum” by now), what we ended up seeing was Nick deciding that in the moment, he didn’t really want a part in it. He sent her back to the hotel after a little bit of kissing, feeling as though it was the right move for the sake of their relationship and others. (Our feeling? He knows that he’s not picking her at the end of the season, and doesn’t want to do anything that he regrets terribly.)
Corinne of course was very upset about all of this, and suddenly afraid that she would be going home. This moment did at least produce some conversation in what was otherwise a really dull two hours of the show, complete with a ton of dates on a boat and a wide array of different roses and rejections.
What you need to know – Raven Gates made it to hometown dates thanks to getting a rose on the Group Date. Meanwhile, Vanessa Grimaldi, new Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay (hey, she’s not winning this season officially now), and Danielle Maltby had solo dates. It went great for some of them … but not for Danielle, who he sent home before making it to the next big stage of the show.
Nick also made a point after his final date with Rachel that he wasn’t going to wait until a Rose Ceremony to send someone home. This is something that he did intentionally for the sake of trying to send Kristina home without making her go through the heartache of standing there in front of the other women finishing in fifth place.
Here’s where things get frustrating: While Kristina was sent home, the show STILL MADE THIS ALL ABOUT CORINNE AND HOW NERVOUS SHE WAS. Ugh. This just wasn’t interesting because we don’t think Corinne is likable enough to be that silly / goofy character we relate to. Kristina admittedly wasn’t altogether interesting, but we figure that her exit probably shouldn’t have been glossed over as much as it was.
Overall – If you like episodes that like weird moments and confrontations, this was your cup of tea. Having Kristina be kind of angry about being sent home at least gave us a feeling that we should’ve seen more of her this season. Grade: B-.
