‘MasterChef Junior’ premiere exclusive: The hunt for the white apron begins (video)
On Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Fox is going to kick off its new season of “MasterChef Junior,” otherwise known as that show where we all watch people a third of our age give us some serious chef envy. Year in and year out, it’s pretty shocking to see what some of these kids are able to put on a plate, and we’ve got a pretty good feeling that there’ll be plenty of that this time around.
In the premiere episode, what you’re specifically going to see is some of the young home cooks try to impress Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi enough to get a white apron and move on to the next stage of the competition. The exclusive sneak peek below is all about that as two contestants in Donovan and Kamryn do their best to cook perfect salmon dishes. You get a little sense of their backgrounds and their stories, including how they first started to get into cooking in the first place.
If you haven’t watched “MasterChef Junior” before but are familiar with the flagship show, what makes it different is that you’ve got a tone that is a little less serious, and contestants who are allowed to have fun while showing off their culinary excellence. Gordon and Christina still demand the best from them, but there’s not a concentrated effort to come down hard on anyone. It’s an encouraging series that stays positive and occasionally allows the judges to make fun of themselves, as well. Consider it a fun way to spend an hour with your family — there’s a good chance that you may get a few ideas as to some dishes that you want to make, as well.
