Tamron Hall leaving ‘Today Show,’ NBC News while Megyn Kelly announcement looms

Just last week, the news first came out that NBC was axing the third hour of “The Today Show” in order to make way for a Megyn Kelly hosted talk show in the fall; specifically, the plan is to move up the “Fourth Hour” with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, therefore giving Kelly what was previously the fourth hour of the daytime staple.

As a result of all this, it looks as though there is a major departure from the network in Tamron Hall, who co-hosted that now-canceled hour with Al Roker. As first revealed by CNN’s Brian Stelter (see the tweets below), Hall is leaving all things NBC News following the announcement. The part of this that is even more disheartening is that per a statement, her last day was last week and she will not get a proper on-air farewell.

Now, we don’t know all of the mechanisms that go on here behind the scenes, but in terms of metrics alone, this is a very rather look for NBC to get rid of someone who was beloved by many viewers, especially without getting a proper send-off. In between this and the Ann Curry fiasco a few years back, these are some of the reasons why “The Today Show” runs into issues. You want your transitions to be seamless, and for some reason they are always far messier with this show than they are with some competitors out there. Maybe a part of the issue here is simply that there are more people who are watching “The Today Show” and some of the rumors that swirl around it, but there has to be a better way to combat that than anything that they’ve been doing as of late.

We anticipate NBC will confirm more news when it comes to Kelly’s show moving forward; as reported recently, this timeslot movie will likely be a saving grace for “Days of Our Lives,” which was previously believed to be in some serious jeopardy.
