Is Kim Cattrall open to a ‘Sex and the City’ revival?
We’ve probably made our stance fairly clear regarding “Sex and the City” and its future — we’re down for more of Carrie Bradshaw’s story, but we’ve never loved the idea of moving it over to the feature film format. The first movie was okay, and the second was entirely useless and a departure from almost everything that we enjoy about the show. It feels necessary to have another entry in the franchise as a form of redemption, but why a movie? Why not just go back to HBO and do six more half-hour episodes? This is the show’s bread and butter, and it’s something that we’ll never quite understand.
Beyond the question of where a revival would happen, the biggest issue is trying to determine if the cast would come back. We’ve heard here and there suggestions that Sarah Jessica Parker would be open to it, and now Kim Cattrall is saying that she also would be, at least under the right circumstances. Speaking to People Magazine, she had the following to say — while of course adding that she has not heard anything in the slightest regarding a revival at all:
“The hardest thing is, what would the story be? It’s been seven, eight years since we wrapped the last movie. Can we get everybody together? We’re all sort of scattered now … Are we still relevant? That would be the reason to come back. I really miss making people laugh, I so enjoy that.”
To us, laughter is the biggest reason to bring everyone back together. This is an era where everything going on in the world is so depressing and divisive, we need these sort of ways to escape and give us a clear head. We’re not saying that they are distractions by any means, but you need these little breaks to sit down, relax, and enjoy something that is a little more light and funny. This show provides that to people all over the world. There’s still not anything else out there like it, especially when it comes to its specific voice.
